Swansea City win Capital One Cup

Swansea City are the first Welsh club to win a major English trophy since 1927 after they soundly defeated Bradford City 5-0.

The Swans completely dominated the Capital One Cup final against League Two side Bradford City, who had to play the last half an hour at Wembley with 10 men.

Nathan Dyer gave the Premier League outfit a deserved lead on 16 minutes, when he tapped home from close range, after goalkeeper Matt Duke had failed to hold Michu’s low effort from the edge of the area.

Michu made it 2-0 with his 19th goal of the season five minutes before the break, poking the ball into the corner of the net from 16 yards.

Dyer doubled his tally early in the second half.

De Guzman and Dyer, who was on the verge becoming the first ever player to score a hat-trick in a League Cup final, then squabbled over who should take the spot kick.

The Dutch international won the argument and converted with expert precision.

De Guzman scored again in stoppage time to make it 5-0, which set a new record for the biggest margin of victory in a League Cup final.

A good goalkeeping performance by Michel Vorm kept Chelsea from beating Swansea by many more goals.

Chelsea moved into third place in the Premier League with a comfortable 2-0 win over Swansea City.

After Frank Lampard came on for the injured Ramires, the Blues picked up their game.

Oscar put Chelsea ahead in the 43rd minute.

Just two minutes later, Juan Mata was pushed from behind in the penalty area and Mark Clattenburg gave a penalty. Lampard got the penalty sending Chelsea into the second half with a two-goal lead.

Since winning the Capital One Cup, Swansea City have slowed down.

Swans manager, Michael Laudrup’s side have only won once in their last six league games, and have fallen to ninth on the Premiership table. They haven’t won away from the Liberty Stadium this year, and now face the task of trying to stop Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Swansea knocked Chelsea out of the Capital One Cup at the semi-final stage, after two consecutive league draws between the sides.

Chelsea come into this game on the back of a Europa League semi-final victory away at Basel, and are still fighting to finish inside the top four.

Oriol Romeu is out for the rest of the season. Marko Marin is doubtful due to his lack of match fitness, though otherwise Chelsea have a fully fit side available. Swansea’s position is even better.

Thousands of Swansea City fans celebrated one of the greatest days in the club’s 100-year history after beating League Two Bradford City in the Capital Cup One final at Wembley Stadium.

The Swans won with a stunning 5-0 result, the biggest win the competition has seen.

It caps a glorious centenary season with the club’s first major trophy under new manager Michael Laudrup.

The players were honored with an open-top bus parade through Swansea.

Nathan Dyer scored twice, Michu one, and Jonathan de Guzman two more after Bradford’s goalkeeper was sent off.

Dyer scored goals in the 16th and 47th minutes, Michu after 39 minutes, and de Guzman in the 58th and 90th minutes.

Swansea City celebrated their 100th year by winning their first major trophy and earning a place in Europe with new manager Michael Laudrup at the helm. The popular Wales club defeated Bradford 5-0 at Wembley Stadium on Sundayl.

Laudrup is a retired superstar Danish footballer who played for Spanish club Barcelona, with whom he won four straight La Liga championships.

Laudrup has one more year left in his contract with The Swans. Laudrup has reiterated that he wants to stay at the Wales club and achieve more successes with the team. He said that winning the Capital One Cup trophy meant more than any of the other achievements in his career.

Michael Ludrup’s stunning success has attracted the interest of two of his former La Liga clubs, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona according to former Blaugrana defender Albert Ferrer, and he could end up with either of those prestigious clubs in future. Reportedly, Laudrup wants to stay at Swansea.

“He could go to Real Madrid or Barcelona. He has been a player of both teams. Barcelona supporters and Real Madrid supporters all love Michael Laudrup because of the way he is,” Ferrer was quoted in the BBC.

Real Madrid’s manager Jose Mourinho will be leaving this summer. Laudrup recently won 72% of the votes in a poll among Real Madrid supporters on who should succeed Mourinho at the Bernabeu. Barca may need a new manager – and a club hero like him would be more than just perfect. Tito Vilanova is currently in New York receiving treatment for cancer and may not be able to continue as manager.

Siw Laudrup is his beautiful wife and they have one child, Rebecca “Mads” Laudrup.
